THE GREAT DEBATES #SalonSmart19

We love a tussle of the minds and The Great Debates at Salon Smart have become somewhat legendary. Bring together a panel of esteemed experts, give them a contentious topic impacting our industry and what do you get? A mighty good, though-provoking debate…

So what topics will we thrash out at #SalonSmart19? Well, with a well-trained ear to the ground, the two subjects we’ve found to be causing a quandary are time and apprenticeships, so they will drive our debate discussions.

Time, it’s a cruel trickster, often in short supply with success hinging on efficient and effective use of the minutes and hours in our day. On Salon Smart Sunday (24 March) at 16.35, Darren Fowler, owner of Fowler35, Not Another Salon’s Sophia Hilton, business director of Stuart Holmes salon, Sara Holmes, Daniel Galvin operations direction Stephen Nurse and Ken West, director of 3·6·5 Education, will take to the mainstage to mull over maximising how time is spent and freeing up hours for important focuses like team and training. They’ll also talk time-saving solutions and debate how you charge for it, tying into our overarching Salon Smart 2019 theme – Time For A Change! You’ll want to spare those precious minutes for this one, it’ll be time well-spent!

Then, closing the event on Monday (25 March) at 16.05 will be a powerhouse panel discussing the recent red tape and restrictions posing problems for apprenticeships. Passionate about igniting the fire in new hairdressing talents, barber and new business owner Mark Maciver aka SliderCuts, Creations owner, Carolyn Sweeney and industry stalwart Andrew Collinge, Percy & Reed’s Paul Percival and Hilary Hall, chief executive of NHF/NBF, will bring this hot topic into the spotlight, as they discuss financial implications, career perception, attitude, motivation and the hurdles and highlights of engaging with the youth of today. How do we inspire and excite the people set to shape the future of British hairdressing? Make sure you’re there to find out!
