Nothing epitomises Salon Smart more than the Meet & Mix session – an opportunity to meet and debate with speakers and presenters who’ve just appeared onstage – and this year was our biggest yet, with no fewer than eight talents positioned at specially designated “bus stops” around the room.

Girl-of-the-moment Sophia Hilton held court at one table, dispensing tips on everything from colour techniques to Instagram; The Chapel’s Toby Dicker talked retention and charging clients for time (rather than services) with another captive group; Westrow’s Steve Rowbottom was on hand to share his experiences and expertise in education; and 3•6•5 Education’s Ken West captivated a crowd who flocked to him to pick his brains on recruitment.

Mahogany Hairdressing, Jas Hair Group, George’s Hairdressing and Michael Van Clarke – all identified by Creative HEAD Editor Amanda Nottage as innovators at recruiting and training young people – were flooded with delegates, all eager to mingle and pick up some invaluable first-hand advice. And all the time the Prosecco flowed, the energy levels were in overdrive, and the Salon Smart buzz grew louder and louder…
