The Most Wanted and The It List ‘class of 2018’ reunited on Monday 15 October for the annual winners’ dinner party, hosted by Creative HEAD.
The gallery at HIX ART, Shoreditch – with a backdrop of installations from young artists –provided the perfect canvas for an exciting evening of conversation, deliberation and above all celebration. This year’s triumphant relived Grand Final fun, shared stories and focused on the future, whilst the wine flowed and a Tramshed-fuelled feast went down a treat!
As dinner drew to a close, Creative HEAD editor, Amanda Nottage, sparked up discussions about the key issues affecting hairdressing right now. Uniting the table was protecting the future of the industry and the impact new government policies are having on apprenticeships both in the UK and Ireland. Passion for educating young people was clear to see, with standards the priority. “It’s our social responsibility”, said double award-winner, Sophia Hilton.
With a room packed full of undeniable talent, many at the table agreed the hairdressing career path isn’t alway easy and requires a lot of hard graft, but the payback is well worth it. After 44 years in the industry, Hair Trend winner, Kevin Kahan, summed up the sentiment: “If I had to do it all again, I would – with passion; this industry is so special. If I lived another life, I’d chose the same and be proud to say I’m a hairdresser.” Independent stylist Jody Taylor was quick to praise the selflessness of colleagues and their genuine desire to help others progress.
Keep your eyes peeled for more from our winners in future issues of Creative HEAD and online – we’ll be publishing a series of mini video interviews (filmed last night) when the competitions reopen for 2019. Hear straight from this year’s success stories on what it takes to take home a trophy!
