Have you considered entering The It List Awards but convinced yourself otherwise? We get it, time is tight, competition is tough BUT you only need hear what our past winners have to say to know that it’s 100% worth it. So, consider this a well-intended nudge towards your trophy bid, as we expose the most common myths that have crossed our paths over the years and why they shouldn’t hold you back…
#1 – I DON’T HAVE TIME
It’s the classic comment and we completely understand – full columns, ambassador obligations, session work, all in a delicate balancing act with home life, it’s hard to find time to dedicate to your entry. But consider this – you don’t need to overthink it – your submission simply needs to summarise all the incredible work you’re already doing and you have almost two months left to pull everything together. If you could just set aside an hour a day or a slot a week, you could create something spectacular.
#2 – I HAVEN’T GOT PR HELP
That’s no problem! In fact, we actively encourage people to compile their own entries because personality and authenticity are always the traits that rate most highly with our esteemed judges. They want to get to know you and what catches their eye is individuality and passion – no one can get this across better that you yourself.
#3 – WINNING – IT’S A LONG SHOT
The biggest fib of all – as everyone that enters is in with a shot at their coveted trophy. What turns entrants into finalists is a display of true talent and absolute skill. Yes, of course it could take a few attempts – each one you’ll learn from, see what this year’s It Guy, Paddy McDougall and It Girl, Grace Dalgleish have to say about that – but equally there’s nothing to say you won’t win first time, just look at our reigning The It List Entrepreneur Phil Benton of douce for proof!
#4 – WRITING ISN’T MY BAG
You don’t need to be a prize-winning novelist to enter. While some categories may be wordier, such as The Entrepreneur, there are options that rely heavily on visuals like The Visionary for example and you can even supplement this category and The It Guy/The It Girl with video.
#5 – I’VE USED THE WORK BEFORE
If you want to create work exclusively for your award entry, you are most welcome to but it’s not a necessity. You’re free to bring in existing collections and examples to support your application, in fact some categories even call for evidence of your work over the past 12 months.
So, what are you waiting for? Check out the categories on the link below and get going – you know you want to!
