… That’s the mantra from Saco hairdressing’s creative director, Richard Ashforth, and for him it definitely paid off. Richard won the 2013 Most Wanted Award for Innovation with the launch of NOISE – an event staged in an edgy London warehouse that gave guests a unique experience of hairdressing, music and fashion.
“Winning the award was a great affirmation of the decisions and risks I took to hold the event,” says Richard. “It has really helped underline the legitimacy of NOISE, too, as it’s aroused further interest from the international press and not just from our own profession.”
“I think our industry is reliant on progression and as such it’s in everyone’s interest to give support to the idea of change on whatever scale”
There are plans for more NOISE events, including overseas offerings in Moscow and Paris. “It’s amazing to see the event grow and even more amazing to see some fantastic names come forward and agree to participate,” he adds.
The first London NOISE, held in Shoreditch, attracted involvement from hairdressing luminaries Tim Hartley and Paul Gray. “I think our industry is reliant on progression and as such it’s in everyone’s interest to give support to the idea of change on whatever scale,” says Richard. “If we all look ahead and try not to stand still, it can only bring positive rewards.”
