Textured hair and youthful flair – Why YOU should enter the LCT18 Afro Look and STAR Award categories

Under 25, with a passion for colour running through your veins? Perhaps you’re obsessed with the creative possibilities afforded by afro hair? Then you need to enter the L’Oréal Colour Trophy STAR Award or Afro Look Award categories to give your talent the moment in the spotlight it deserves.

Geared towards colourists between the ages of 16 and 25 in the UK and ROI, and afro hair colour specialists in the UK respectively, these two LCT18 competition classes provide an unrivalled platform to get your work noticed and share your colour addiction.

“To be recognised as one of the best of the best is just amazing,” says judge Adam Reed of the STAR Award, “and the confidence that will give you is immense and second to none.”

“And whether you win or lose, get further on or not,” adds fellow judge Jack Howard, “it is a learning curve and it is really great for you as a young professional.”

Nashwhite’s Jordan Massarella, the L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2017 Afro Look Award champion, describes the competition as an “awesome opportunity”.

“LCT17 gave me an opportunity to realise my potential and it allowed us as a team to be creative, to build relationships and access invaluable education. Winning was such a huge achievement, and to anyone thinking of entering this year, my advice would be DO IT! Enjoy the process, put the work in and make the most of it.

“The winners’ shoot in Paris was an experience like no other,” he adds. “Shooting our winning look with Jack Eames and working with renowned make-up artist Lan Nguyen-Grealis was inspirational, and it was great to see the other winners at work, creating and shooting their looks. The whole trip felt like a celebration of our hard work and success and we were encouraged to revel in every moment.”
