Mary Katrantzou A/W13

The show: Mary Katrantzou

The lead stylist: Eugene Souleiman for Wella Professionals

The hair: As one can always expect from Eugene, the hair was intelligent and never quite what it seemed. To the fore were sharp fringes contrasted by textured ponies that protruded from the crown at the back. Joan of Arc was the one strong reference expressed by the hair maestro.

Recreate: Prep the hair with Wella Professionals SP Hydrate Finish and Create Character. Pull the hair back off the face, creating two ponies – one at the highest point of the crown and one just a few centimetres below. Join the two by tying with an elastic band approximately 15 times around, so the pony protrudes from the head and moves when the models go on the runway. To create the fringe, spray the front of the head with Wella Professionals Stay Essential so the hair extension has a firm foundation. Apply around 10 layers of extensions for the fringe, beginning at the front of the hairline and moving from temple to temple, layer by layer back, until the fringe is in line with the ears. Cut bluntly to finish.

Product essentials: Wella Professionals SP Hydrate Finish, Create Character, Stay Essential and an elastic band.

The buzz: This season, Mary Katrantzou turned to landscapes and was inspired by shadowy vistas, as well as the black and white photographic work of Edward Steichen, Clarence White and Alfred Stieglitz. The result saw linear, attenuated, elongated and elegant silhouettes – something that came through in the hair sublimely.
