Alessio Matta

Creative Director
Been with Sassoon: 14 years.

Me, in three words: Determined. Focused. Team player.

My one piece of advice to a young hairdressing student…
Practice makes perfect.

What I need around me to be able to work…
Music and an organised environment with a passionate team – just like I have now!

If I hadn’t been a hairdresser, I’d have been…
A fashion or hat designer.

Caroline Spencer

Senior Colour Director
Been with Sassoon: 18-and-a-half years.

Me, in three words: Sharp, firm and fair.

I always tell my hairdressing students…
Never stop learning new things and be a good listener – it’ll take you far.

What I need around me to be able to work…
Strong, fun people who are hard-working. This inspires me daily.

If I hadn’t been a hairdresser, I would have been…
My grandfather was a set designer on films and my father was a props and sounds editor on films so I think I would have followed them into the film industry as a make-up artist.

Damien Peers

Senior Creative Director
Been with Sassoon: 29 years.

Three places that are guaranteed sources of inspiration…
Osaka, Japan – great architecture, people and food.
The National Theatre – always inspiring.
Showstudio.com – an amazing platform of fashion ideas.

My advice for a young hairdressing student would be…
Always ask ‘Why?’. You need to question the reason for doing what you do.

Every hairdresser should learn…
How to take a great photograph. In this digital age showcasing your work well is vital!

If I hadn’t been a hairdresser, I would have been…
A professional footballer! Although when I realised that wasn’t going to happen, an architect!

Daniel McCourt

Senior Creative Director
Been with Sassoon: 11 years.

Me, in three words: Fun. Fair. Forward.

Three guaranteed sources of inspiration for me…
Instagram. World travels. My team.

The most important thing you need to succeed in hairdressing is…
As in anything, education, ambition and self-belief.

Danielle Harvey

Assistant UK Creative Director
Been with Sassoon: 29 years.

Me, in three words: Dynamic. Conscientious. Passionate.

I always say to my hairdressing students…
Work hard, study hard, embrace and learn from everyone around you.  Find your own style and strive to be the very best at what you do. Never stop learning.

When I’m at work I need…
An energetic, passionate, motivated team around me who strive for the best in whatever they do and have strong self-belief.

If I hadn’t been a hairdresser, I would have been…
A horse whisperer – everyone knows I’m fascinated by my horses!

Davide Scarna

Creative Director
Been with Sassoon: 15 years.

If I could work with one person, it would be…
Mark Hayes.  He is a very busy man. I would love to have more training from him. His technique is pristine, flawless.

My advice to a young hairdressing student would be…
Focus on the end result.

Every hairdresser should learn about…
Active Listening. It’s a holistic approach that enables us to sense our students’ needs on a much deeper level.

If I hadn’t been a hairdresser, I would have been…
An intuitive life coach. I love empowering people, helping them to plug intp their true potential.

Pink Grubb

Colour Director
Been with Sassoon: 16-and-a-half years.

I couldn’t work without…
My colourful combs. I love our YS Park needle combs, especially in yellow and green (my happy colours!)

My favourite colour technique…
Is anything that allows you to be an individual.  Don’t follow a hair trend just because your friend has it. Be you – it’s much more fun!

If I could work with one person, it would be…
Iris Apfel. I LOVE her. I think her vision is fabulous. The textures, the colours, the prints – all clashing together, but still harmonising beautifully. Imagine that with hair! I’d love to work with Iris!

Silvia Salerno

Senior Creative Director
Been with Sassoon: 17.5 years.

Me, in three words: Passionate. Inquisitive. Modest.

Guaranteed sources of inspiration…
World cinema. Galleries. Theatre. Web. The History of Style. Photography by Paolo Roversi and Sarah Moon.

I couldn’t work without…
Classical music – Piano / Claude Debussy – Opera / Maria Callas

My favourite colour technique is…
‘The line’ as it motivates me to better my skills.

Stuart Ross

Colour Director
Been with Sassoon: 19 years.

My guaranteed sources of inspiration include…
Any old London building with a history, in particular Georgian houses. I love the hidden details in the architecture. I also love Breathe – it’s a mindfulness magazine for relaxation, wellbeing and creativity. Plus Instagram for endless inspiring images and stories.

I couldn’t work without…
Section clips they hold the hair for precision sections and keep everything very clean.

My favourite colour…
Has to be any shade of blonde.

At work I need to be surrounded by…
Positive, high-energy and hard-working people.

If I hadn’t been a hairdresser, I would have been…
A writer. My uncle, Kenneth Ross, was a writer, who adapted many famous screenplays in the 70’s, including ‘The Day of the Jackal’. I love the idea of creative writing.
