To celebrate the talent across the Aveda salon network, the brand is hosting a running series of #AvedaArtist competitions, where aspiring stylists enter creative images on social media, with a chance to win a shoot day, mentored by one of the Aveda Artistic team

The first three winners were invited to a shoot at the Smashbox Studios in central London and were tasked with the theme of high-performance hair. Having styled shows for Stella McCartney’s collaboration with Adidas, athleisure is an area that Aveda has some previous experience. What would the Aveda Artists create…?

Prehistoric goddess by Robert Martin, Urban Therapy, Derby

“My inspiration for the look was intricate braiding techniques, I wanted it to look ethnic and prehistoric. I think the finger waves framing the face finished of the look and gave it that edge it needed.

“I loved working with Aveda’s European Master Educator and Hair Colour Specialist, Jo McKay, and the rest of the team – I love being able to be creative as I love to style hair and create styles with endless possibilities.”

Wrapped yoga bun by Lisa Standerwick

“My inspiration came from the classic ballerina style bun and from yoga. When practicing yoga, you’re able to manipulate and stretch your body. The starting point of the bun is the ponytail, which symbolises your inner core strength, while the hair wrapped around the ponytail symbolises the body. I wanted my look to be achievable for any guest and to be functional while doing a workout but also elegant enough to be worn on an evening out. The look worked with my model’s natural beauty – she had a real Audrey Hepburn vibe.

“The whole experience was amazing, making new friends and learning from true artists. It’s so much fun and it was great to be able to tap into other creative minds. But most of all I’ve come home with a new-found belief in myself.”

 

Goddess of victory by Louise Coke, Aveda Joshua Tree

“My inspiration was Nike, the beautiful Greek goddess of victory and linked to sport now by the modern brand. Bold, smooth and sleek shapes with golden rope like braids – all with a sporty ponytail to finish!

“The whole day was an amazing yet surreal experience – to watch as my work was professionally photographed was priceless. As a child, I loved to sit in front of a mirror and design new hair styles so it was a dream come true to win this opportunity.”
