Open to all UK Bb.Network Salons, the Double Take Contest invites hairdressers to submit their best transformations for the chance to win an incredible trip to an exclusive workshop with Bb. global artistic director Laurent Philippon at House of Bumble in New York.
The lucky winner this year was Hannah De Frateschi from Simon Webster Hair, who was whisked away for two action-packed days in the Big Apple. On the first day, she attended Laurent Philippon’s exclusive class on editorial photoshoots, and the next day she created her own photoshoot, putting what she’d learned on day one to the test.
We sat down with Hannah to get the lowdown on this amazing opportunity.
Hi Hannah! What motivated you to enter the Double Take Contest?
I entered the contest last year and got through to the final, so this year I entered as I was determined to win.
Congratulations! Can you describe your winning entry?
My winning look is based on bringing hairdressing back to basics. Using my model as the canvas, I created a cut and colour that would enhance all of my models features; her cheekbones, her neck and skin tone. By keeping to this rule you, can’t go wrong!
What do you think differentiates you as a stylist?
I think that because I love my job so much, I want to do as much as I possibly can. It’s opportunities such as the Bumble and bumble Double Take Contest that drive me to stay current and ahead in an industry that is so full of talent.
Now let’s talk New York. What did you learn from Bb. global artistic director, Laurent Phillipon?
I gained so much from working with the incredible Laurent. I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity to work alongside him, allowing me to see how his brain works. He has such an interesting approach to his work and he has changed how I see hair.
What look did you create for your shoot on the second day?
I created a modern take on a classic Hollywood glamour look. I am a big fan of Dita Von Teese so she played a part in my inspiration for the shoot.
What was your favourite thing about New York and House of Bumble?
The architecture in New York was amazing. Everything really is how you see it in the films. House of Bumble is such an exciting, creative hub of energy. I would love to work there one day.
What lessons do you think you have brought home with you?
To keep going and keep learning. There are so many opportunities in our industry if we want them. Winning this competition has been the highlight of my career so far – it has inspired me, challenged me and pushed me. It has also given me new skills to go forward in my career. I would advise everyone to enter this competition as it will open new doors.
